We design solutions for the everyday challenges of raising kids who need extra care

  • More than 19% of children in the U.S. have a special healthcare need

That's 14 million kids and their families navigating complex care systems

  • About Us

Founded by an MIT grad and autism mama, the Letter C is an early-stage technology and education startup dedicated to improving the daily lives of kids with special healthcare needs and their families. Our mission is to help these families make room for joy by solving the often overlooked, everyday challenges of caregiving.

Our name references the common practice of using initials to protect a child’s privacy. But behind every set of initials is a family navigating the complexities of a lifelong disability or medical condition. We put their unique needs front and center with innovative solutions for the journey ahead.

  • A girl sits in a green wheelchair in front of a blackboard filled with colorful chalk drawings, including an apple, book, flower, and the equation “2 + 2.” She wears a white shirt with blue trim, a dark skirt, knee-high socks, and blue shoes, highlighting inclusivity in a classroom setting.

    Why the Letter C?

Nearly 1 out of every 5 children in the U.S. has a special healthcare need. These children require more care for their physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional differences than typically developing peers, which interferes with daily life and places additional stress on parents and caregivers.

We work at the intersection of technology, healthcare, education, and everyday living to solve the many challenges of raising kids who need extra care.

  • Special healthcare needs are more than visible disabilities. They describe a range of medical conditions that result in an above-routine need for health and related services, such as autism, learning disabilities, diabetes, and epilepsy.

    Blueprint for Change

In June 2022, the American Academy of Pediatrics published "A Blueprint for Change," specific actions to support children and youth with special healthcare needs. The report cites a lack of progress along multiple dimensions while offering a vision of the future–one requiring collaboration among caregivers, the healthcare system, and other stakeholders to improve outcomes.

These findings underscore a need for innovation and private-sector investment to spark meaningful change. As parents and problem solvers, we're mobilizing a broad spectrum of resources to address the continuing needs of these children and their families.

  • Our Vision

    Less stress. More Joy.
A mother and daughter share a playful moment at the kitchen sink, laughing and covered in soap suds. The daughter wears a yellow sleeveless top, and the mother holds a soapy plate. A gold faucet, soap bottle, and window with plants and a red flower are in the background.

Parents of children with special healthcare needs are 7 times more likely to feel aggravated by parenting, twice as likely to change jobs due to childcare, and spend more time coordinating or providing care than other parents. We envision communities free of these disparities, giving families of children with special healthcare needs the time and capacity to focus on the things that matter.

  • Solutions for the Everyday

Caring for a child with special healthcare needs presents daily challenges for families and the providers who support them. At The Letter C, we design solutions to address these everyday hurdles. We help mission-driven organizations move from operational chaos to strategic clarity and empower parents with the tools they need for the journey ahead.
